Many men do not like having hair on their chest when they are competitive body builders. If you want to have a smooth chest, but do not want to have to worry about shaving it on a daily basis, you may want to consider waxing it. Unlike shaving, waxing allows you to have a smooth chest without having to worry about having ingrown hairs or razor burn. The following guide walks you through a few tips to use when you first start waxing your chest.
Clean Your Chest Thoroughly
Before you wax your chest, you need to be sure that it has been thoroughly cleaned. If you have cologne on your skin, it could cause you to have an allergic reaction when you use the wax because it will open up your pores and allow the cologne in. If you have lotion on your skin, the wax will not be able to stick to the hair as well and it could cause you to have to wax your chest again and again, which could be quite painful.
Trim the Hair to Ensure Maximum Grasp by the Wax
When you wax your chest, you do not want the hairs to be too long because the wax will not be able to grasp them well. Trim your chest hairs to round a half an inch in length to ensure that the wax can grasp them as well as possible. You can use a pair of clippers or a pair of scissors to easily shorten your chest hairs before waxing them.
Use Wax Strips Rather than Hot Wax
When you first start waxing your chest, it is best to use wax strips rather than traditional hot wax. Hot wax can be quite dangerous if you do not know what you are doing. The wax strips are very easy to use and much safer than hot wax. Simply warm up the strips by rubbing them between your hands, pull the strips apart, and rub them onto the areas where you want to wax. Wait a few seconds and then pull the strips away from your skin to reveal a smooth, hair-free chest.
The areas where you waxed will be slightly red and tender for a few minutes. You may see some slight swelling, but that should go down within a short period of time, as well. Once the redness and swelling disappear, your chest will be smooth to the touch and look great in photos or while you compete on stage.
